OPINION: Jess Dureza’s quest for peace by Jun Ledesma

SECRETARY JESUS DUREZA has liberated himself from the iniquitous iniquity of the bureaucracy. He was to deliver the axe himself on the two ranking officials that oversee the PAMANA projects of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Peace Process. He was just validating the pieces of information and evidence against the two officials namely Usec .Ronald Flores and Asst. Sec. Yesther Donn Baccay and had informed Pres. Rodrigo Duterte about it. Unfortunately, Secretary Dureza have to fly to New York to represent the country in a function in the United Nations. Hardly had he unpacked his suitcase when he got back President Duterte beat him on the draw and anounced the termination of the two officials. That placed Secretary Jess in a fix and he did the right thing by submitting his resignation to the President, and in equal fashion as Duterte did in announcing the termination of the two, posted his letter resignation on Facebook stressing in bold letters his “taking full responsibilit...

Duterte again pushes for Federal government

DAVAO CITY - President Rodrigo Duterte has again vowed to push for a change in form of government - from presidential system to federal – and even threatened to make Mindanao a federal region if lawmakers fail to amend the Constitution to pave the way for new government. When he was mayor in Davao City in southern Philippines, Duterte had been strongly campaigning for the establishment of a federal form of government and in many of his public appearances and speeches the President said federalism is the next best thing for the country. He also vowed to step down - even before his term ends on 2022 - as soon as the new federal government is fully functional. “Do not be afraid of a dictatorship because I will not be the one,” Duterte said. Duterte’s stand virtually reinforced Sulu’s strong support to the President firm stand and advocacy for a federal form of government. The governor of Sulu...
